Boasting of a coastline of 105 km, Goa is a land of beaches. Panaji and Mormugao are the two main ports of Goa. Some of the most beautiful beaches are located in Miramar. Old Goa has Viceroy’s Arch, Gate of Adil Shah’s Palace and beautiful churches like Basilica of Bom Jesus and St. Cathedral Churches. Other important places in Goa are Aguada, Anjuna, Baga, Benaulim, Bondla, Panaji, Colva, Kavelem, Mardol, Terekhol, Chapora & Cabo de Rama Forts, Ctigao & Molen wildlife sanctuaries, Dudhsagar & Harvalem waterfalls, Mayem lake resort, Vasco da Gama and Vagator.
The principal food crop of the state is rice. Pulses, ragi, maize, jowar, groundnut and bajra are also grown. Sugarcane, coconut, arecanut, cashewnut, mango, pineapple and banana are the important cash crops of the region. About 29% of the area of the state is covered with forests. Mining industry holds a significant position in the economy of Goa. Some of the minerals found in Goa are iron ore, manganese, ferro-manganese, silica and bauxite.
Apart from these there are various small scale industries such as saw mills, fruit and fish canning, printing presses, soap manufacturing, furniture, acrylic sheet, automobile batteries, mosaic tiles, fishing nets, spectacle frames, stainless steel etc. |
