The long historical past, diversified geographical contours, customs, traditions and ideologies of both the immigrants and invaders have added to the formation of a rich cultural heritage of India. And so India has been endowed with a great diversity of cultural practices, languages, customs, and traditions.

Pottery is one of the major forms of arts and crafts in India. The Indian potters are undoubtedly some of the best artists in the world. There are many styles of pottery that are used to make different types of pots and other related products. The pots are made in different shapes, in various dimensions and designs. Moreover the potters decorate the products with intricate paintings and hand work.

The terracotta artifact s symbolize the Indian arts and crafts. Terracotta products are made by a combination of earth and water, which is then baked on low heat in a traditional Indian kiln. At first, the artists mould the objects by hand or on a wheel and then place them in an open oven. Then the artists rub and polish the surface of the articles with the help of wooden palettes or stones in order to provide a smooth finish to the articles.

The Indian fabrics like cotton, and silk and the embroideries on these fabrics have also earned global recognition and fame. Silk from Mysore, Karnataka is most popular and expensive as well. Saree is the traditional costume of the Indian women. It is draped in different styles in different regions of the India. Kanjeevaram sarees are famous all over India. These silk sarees are usually very expensive and come from the village of Kanchipuram in Tamil Nadu. Banarasi sarees that come from Banaras are also a popular variety of saree.
